EMV SPOT (PCI 2) Sunsetting Date for 2027

October 23rd, 2024

EMV SPOT has a PCI Compliance sunsetting date set for 2027. This means that any pumps or dispensers equipped with EMV SPOTs will no longer be PCI compliant at this time. New dispensers or kits that are installed in replacement of EMV SPOT must be PCI 3 or higher (Check the bottom of this article for more on PCI Compliance Security Standards).

What are PCI Compliance Security Standards?

When it comes to processing payments at your c-store, or any business that accepts transactions with credit cards, card data and customer security should be top priority.
That's why PCI Compliance standards were put in place.

PCI stands for Payment Card Industry. This industry is made up of notable credit card companies including American Express, Discover, Mastercard, JCB International, and Visa. These companies came together to create PCI Compliance Security Standards that all forms of payment systems must abide by, and update when the time is needed. If standards are not met, liability of stolen data shifts from the bank to the business operator. These equipment and security standards are put in place to protect cards and customer data to prevent fraud and stolen card data. These standards need to be met at the pump, in the c-store and anywhere else on your site that can process payment.
